Montage Theatre Arts History

Montage Theatre was established in 1998 by Judy Gordon and in 2004 it became Montage Theatre Arts, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.

Through hard work, dedication and creativity Judy Gordon, and a committed team of practitioners, developed MTA into the organisation it is today; from one drama class per week to a programme of over 35 classes per week, plus our summer school, holiday courses, workshops and commissioned projects.

MTA’s Founder Judy Gordon and student – 2015

Throughout MTA’s history we have provided affordable, enjoyable and high-quality arts opportunities to thousands of families across South East London, engaging with people ages 3 – 96 (and counting)!

Our students have had opportunities to perform at some of London’s biggest venues including: Sadler’s Wells, The Southbank Centre and work with institutions such as the National Theatre.

MTA has, and continues to build, a reputation for excellence; striving to provide the best teaching and learning experience possible for children and adults, overcoming both financial and social barriers.

Judy Gordon served as Artistic Director until 2016 and the charity is now managed by a team with vast management and creative experience, overseen by a Board of Trustees.

Montage Theatre Arts is currently funded by the Lewisham Council Main Grants scheme. We are also funded by the Gordon Family Fund, The Hilary and Stuart Williams Foundation, the Childhood Trust and generous private donations from our parents and wider MTA family. We have also been supported by organisations such as the Arts Council, Comic Relief, City Bridge Trust and the Wates Foundation.
