Bess
Devised by Judy Gordon (director)and Deanna Johnson (performer).
David Barnett (sound editing)
It is October 31st 2003 and the annual séance to contact Harry Houdini is being held. For thirty years, no-one has materialised. This year is different. Bess, Harry’s wife has something to tell.
This unique site-specific event was a work-in-progress.
In a short piece of physical theatre, vaudeville, monologue and archive footage come together to reveal Bess’ public and private world where both the celebration, isolation and fear of being Harry Houdini’s wife leads to a bitter and restless spirit…
Performed: May 2003 Greenwich Theatre café (supported by Greenwich Theatre). Invited audience from Greenwich Theatre Forum.
