Youth Theatre Company
The Youth Theatre Company is for young people aged 13 – 18 years committed to theatre and drama training. This course is designed to build self-confidence through learning and developing vocal and physical techniques. There is an annual production performed at a local professional theatre, including the Albany and Brockley Jack theatres.
Here, acting potential is explored in the process of creating a piece of theatre from rehearsal to performance. The company is committed to producing excellent theatre, presenting plays specially written and adapted for young people. Those joining will take part in special performance platforms in the spring term with workshops and masterclasses in the summer term.

Getting Involved: Performance and Technical
The students are involved on every level of this course, including the choice of play to be performed following workshops on a range of plays explored at the beginning of the year. They design costume and props and are involved in lighting, sound and stage management choices. In 2010, the company fundraised and ran a 3-month project leading to 3 months performances at the Brockley Jack Theatre.
This course often includes group theatre trips to both London and local theatres.
Tutors are highly experienced practitioners. Currently the course is taught by award-winning playwright Evan Placey.
“The experience of preparing a full play and performing it in such a professional space at the Albany was a completely new experience. I was terrified about there being problems or messing up lines etc, but in fact all of the hiccups in the play and on the way to it only added to the enjoyment of the process as we all managed to overcome them together.”
