Older People’s Courses

Montage Theatre Arts provides excellent performing arts opportunities for older people of all ages and abilities.  Join us, have fun, get fit and make new friends.  Everyone is welcome – we have a ball!

Tea Party at Deptford X


Performances:

Our group participate in various performance events and festivals.  Highlights include:

Tales of Ambition,  May 5th 2012 at Chisenhale Dance Space, London.

This piece is part of an evening of dance created by experienced choreographers in north-London companies working with older performers, Dreams in Bloom.  This new piece of dance theatre is where Judy returns to her roots of performance using personal histories, working with original music by harmonica player Bill Smith, and choreographing to Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson and Chorus Line’s “One“.

A journey of ambition – where it starts, where it  goes…  17 older women weave their own beautiful and amusing stories of past dreams and life-affirming moments in a new dance theatre piece driven by jazz classics and blues, culminating in an ambitious  show–stopping tap dance routine  – complete with sequined shirts, hats, canes and fishnet tights!

The final dance number will be appearing in numerous Olympic events including the Big Screen on Blackheath, the Big Dance Bus at Lewisham Shopping Centre, Hilly Fields Fayre and on the Broadway Theatre, Catford.

This same group that will be performing in another piece, Dancing Voices, at the Royal Festival Hall in the opening Cultural Olympiad event in July with East London Dance.

The Dinner Party, July ‘10

Created and performed by 17 women, aged 64 – 86 years, devised by Artistic Director, Judy Gordon. Funded by the Arts Council as part of Big Dance 10.  The women arrive at their annual dinner party. As they wait for service, the wine flows freely and truths are revealed in an inspiring, joyous dance theatre piece, by a unique set of women. Based on the performers’ own lives, the women dance, speak and sing this moving story through tap, tango and a dance with cutlery and crockery.


Dancing stAge, July ‘10

Dancing stAGE is a 3-month dance project for older Londoners that culminated in an unforgettable performance at the Southbank Centre on Friday 9 July 2010. The major event was part of Big Dance and the Capital Age Festival and was produced by East London Dance. Under the direction of Choreographer, Natasha Gilmore, and Project Director, Cheryl McChesney, a team of artists worked with over 150 older people to create a spectacular performance piece.
